25.02 Stephanie Johnson - Abstracting the Landscape with ICM

In her presentation, Stephanie takes you on a journey of exploration to learn techniques for abstracting the landscape through the lens of Intentional Camera Movement, aka ICM, and Multiple Exposure ICM (ME ICM).  Stephanie has a deep love and passion for the individually expressive nature of ICM and ME ICM, and she encourages photographers to ‘see things differently’ through the lens of their own individual artistry, as well as through the lens of their inner creative selves.  Using ICM as a creative tool enables photographers to do just that.

In this talk, Stephanie covers the basic principles and techniques of ICM and ME ICM to provide a foundational understanding of various ways the camera may be used as a tool for creative expression through movement.  She also shows by example how different sizes and speeds of movement create different types of effects and explains how various combinations of factors can be utilized to create unique imagery, even from the same scene or photographic outing.  She also shares examples of scenes before and after using ICM and discusses what she looked for, or what caught her attention, while creating the resulting images.  A short fieldwork video to show some of the camera movements Stephanie uses in different locations will be shown, as well.

Stephanie also presents a short section on mobile ICMs for the growing trend towards creating these types of images with mobile devices, for both Android and iPhone users.
